Maghreb Sumud Flotilla Sends More Vessels Toward Gaza

(MENAFN) The Maghreb Sumud Flotilla declared late Wednesday that the 13th vessel out of its 23-ship convoy had departed from Tunisia heading toward the Gaza Strip. This movement is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which seeks to defy the Israeli blockade that has restricted the enclave for nearly 18 years.

In a recording shared on the platform of the American social media corporation Facebook, the flotilla reported that the vessel left from Gammarth harbor, situated north of Tunisia’s capital, on its course to Gaza.

Earlier in the day, Jawaher Shanna, a representative of the Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, informed a news agency that 12 vessels from the group had already embarked from Tunisia toward Gaza, while another was scheduled to leave later that same day.

Crowds of Tunisians assembled at the harbor to commemorate the ship’s send-off, chanting phrases such as “Gaza, symbol of dignity,” “On our way to Gaza, millions of martyrs,” “With our souls, with our blood, we sacrifice for you Palestine” and “Free Palestine, Zionists out.”

The Global Sumud Flotilla stated on the platform of the American social media company X that six ships carrying 26 Greek citizens along with 20 foreign activists had set off from Syros, Greece and “are on the way to unite with the solidarity fleet en route to Gaza.”

On Tuesday, the International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege of Gaza declared that all vessels would assemble near Malta before sailing together toward the Palestinian coastline.
